Radio Communautaire Missisquoi (CIDI99.1FM)

BACKGROUND

RCM was formed by a group of local volunteers in 1998. The organization saw that its central purpose would be to reflect and reinforce community and individual identity, provide local information and entertainment, support further education and training, and help create employment in the Brome-Missisquoi area which it would serve.

The organization’s vision was to provide broadcast opportunities for groups and individuals in the region, to produce programs to promote local organizations and talent, and to provide public service programming in consultation with:
  • local municipalities
  • health & social services
  • emergency services
  • schools
  • non-profit and community groups
While the broadcast facilities were being planned and installed over the past two years, the volunteer RCM production group has made and released sample programming on CD “audio magazines”. RCM has provided employment and opportunities for local artists by producing shows featuring local musicians in local venues and promoting them in the local media. CIDI 99.1 FM is now playing their music on the air. RCM also produces the TV music program “STOP!” which is broadcast over a local cable channel.

Throughout this process, RCM has begun to assemble the technical expertise and experience required to build local program production capability. This is gradually allowing the organization to broaden the original vision and think in terms of producing programs not only for radio, but for other media as well.
